Remembering Jesus - The Lord's Supper
COMMUNION
“And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body. Then He took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you.” (Matt. 26:26-27 NKJV)
“The Lord’s Supper” and “Communion,” are names applied to the meal which Christ had with His disciples in the upper room on Thursday evening. They had gathered together to celebrate the feast of the Passover, which commemorated the angel of death passing over the Israelite homes during the series of plagues in Egypt. Unleaven bread and wine were used in this feast. The Lord’s Supper (Communion) was started by Christ in order that the followers of the Savior might always keep in mind what He has done for all of mankind. Your sins, our sins and the sins of all mankind placed Jesus Christ on the cross between two thieves. Christ voluntarily gave Himself because of His love for all the children of men. Christians think of Christ’s sacrifice while worshiping and partaking of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week.
Let us pray to Almighty God and thank Him for the sacrifice of His only Son on the cross in order that we might live with Him forever.
