Remembering Jesus - The Lord's Supper
SUNDAY
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.” (1 Cor. 11:26 NKJV)
God, in His infinite wisdom, ordained that one day in seven man should through fellowship with God nourish his soul. Every day is holy unto the Lord. If you are a Christian then you worship constantly. But one day each week, you join with likeminded Christians in corporate worship and praise of God’s Holy Name, seeking renewed strength, peace of mind, firmer convictions and wider avenues for the expression of faith in God.
If you have long neglected faithful participation in worshipping God on the first day of the week when the saints meet (partaking of the Lord’s Supper), and if you have recently taken up where the strings were loosed, perhaps in your youth, then you might be like most Christians in your situation, who often testify (after experiencing again the joy of partaking of the Lord’s Supper and worshipping with the fellowship of saints in their area) to the newness of life surging through their beings, which they had not known in a long time. The faithful Christian worshipper, upon missing the regular service of worship and partaking of the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, often testifies to the emptiness which follows through the rest of the week.
There is not any secret about worship and the Lord’s Supper. God is there in a special way and imparts Himself to the true worshipper in a manner which will make His presence felt. When you cannot meet with the saints; when you have to be absent, be sure that it is because of something you cannot change; that it is not of men, but of God. “…Serving together as God directs” (Phil. 1:27 NKJV).
