GIVING OUR BEST
“Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us…” (Psalm 90:17 KJV).
The story goes like this: “It was the family practice to give an offering each Sunday morning. I still remember dad saying, ‘Giving is one of the highlights of the worship service.’ My memories are filled with visions of delight placing a little gift into the collection plate along with mom and dad’s offering. Thinking about those days of yesteryear fills me with peace and the beauty of God’s love—seems like it happened just last Sunday, instead of many years ago!
“One Sunday morning it came time for the offering. Dad always seemed to have change in his pocket and so I always togged at him asking for money, but one Sunday morning he had none. There I was, hand outstretched, waiting for those familiar coins to put into the collection plate. He searched all his pockets, but they were empty. I must have looked heartbroken, and I’ll never forget that look of despair as dad whispered, ‘Son, I just don’t have anything to give this morning.’
“Suddenly, there was a smile on dad’s face as mom blew a kiss into the collection plate as it passed by.”
Isn’t that what God really wants? Each of us offering Him the best we have.
