GOD THE FATHER
“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:1-2)
The clearest picture of God the Father is in the New Testament. He is like Jesus. Jesus said, “He who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9 NKJV).
In the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32), Jesus gives a true picture of the Father. The prodigal and his father met on a road! The son did not choose the meeting place; the father chose it. He might have remained on the porch, saying to himself as he watched the travel-weary son approach, “At last he has come to his senses. I hope he can see how he has injured me and caused me sorrow. He’s probably not sincere in coming home. He has run out of money.”
But that is not the way the story reads, for this is not the Parable of Prodigal Son so much as it is the Parable of the Forgiving Father. That forgiving father recognized his son from a distance. He ran to meet him, buried his head in the dusty folds of the tattered garment, and poured out his love. The boy did make his confession, but it is evident the glad father had already forgiven him! The father knew his son was coming back home, just as God knows when you are coming back home to be with Him. Know that God will run to meet you.
God is your dwelling place and will always be there for you, from everlasting to everlasting.
