HALF-A-MIND
Norman Vincent Peale was on a plane headed west when a woman sat down beside him. She said, “Excuse me sir, aren’t you Mr. Peale?” He answered, “I am.” She said, “Please sir, I wish you would take a minute to talk to my husband. He is sitting in the third row behind us. He has a problem wherein he can not make up his mind to do things that he knows he should do.” Peale walked back to where he was setting, introduced himself and the man invited him to sit down. After about twenty minutes of conversation the man had used the expression, “I have half-a-mind to do that,” several times. Finally Mr. Peale said, “You have a serious problem. If you only have half-a-mind, you can never accomplish much.”
In Christianity many of us have half-a-mind to live for Christ. If we have the mind of Christ, it is a fully committed mind. No doubts, no questions, only full commitment. “Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus.”
Half-a-mind is the same as a half-wit and no one wants to be a half-wit.
