“I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.” (Psalm 73:23)

Among the Psalms the early Christians used to sing was one written by Asaph and included in the above words from Psalm 73:23. It was probably based on Isaiah 41:40, where the prophet wrote, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

There is no Christian but that needs this assurance of God’s sustaining mercy. Christians have been burdened by cares, fears, work, disappointments, troubles within and without.

Most Christians have on occasion been troubled with feelings of unworthiness, imperfection, and weaknesses, like branches “cut off” (John 15:5), learning the meaning of the Savior’s words, “Without me ye can do nothing.”

Then as you grow you learn that there is strength in this weakness as the apostle wrote,

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong!” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

By this time you have learned to find your strength in God and not in yourself.

You have as Asaph wrote: “Nevertheless I cm continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory” (Psalm 73:23, 24).

Do you have a firm grip on the hand of the Lord? It is there for you.
