ALL CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE OPTIMISTIC

“...Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Cor. 2:9 NKJV)

Optimism may be defined as the disposition to look on the bright side of life, to expect the best and believe the best will come to pass; it is a natural inclination to be hopeful about everything; the belief that the good in life over- balances the bad. It is the spirit of “I can;” as Paul declared, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

To be optimistic, one must have the right mental attitude and try to always look on the bright side of the situation. One must have the attitude that the joy of life over-balances the pain of it, as a mother forgets the pain of childbirth when she holds her newborn baby.

Christians should always be optimistic because of all God’s wonderful promises, and know that He has never broken one promise (Joshua 21:45-22:14). We read in Hebrews 8:6 that “The new covenant is superior to the old one and it is founded on better promises.” David, in Psalms 145:13 says, “The Lord is faithful to all His promises, and loving toward all He has made.” And in Psalms 119:145 David says, “My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.” Paul said in 2 Corinthians 7:1, “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.”

Peter tells us, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness. Through these He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires” (2 Peter 1:3,4).

What great promises—Christians can have communion with God and fellowship with Christ!
