IT IS AMAZING

“And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea...” (Mark 5:12, 13)

What is amazing? The account of the destruction of the swine reported above in Mark 5.

You need to think about this one. You begin with the request of the devils. Isn’t it interesting that they were powerless to injure even beasts without the permission of Jesus? Herein you can see the depth of the design of God. Your mind tells you to “walk by sight,” while your Savior tells you to “walk by faith” (2 Cor. 5:7). Devils believe, and as James said: “tremble” (James 2:19). As a Christian, you profess to believe, but what do you know about the power of God? He does have power over your adversaries.

Those devils, no longer able to torment man, requested to enter the swine, and it was given. That was amazing.

This action was not taken to spite or injure the Gadarenes. It caused them to hate Jesus for destroying their swine. What you need to remember is: they were living on the other side of the Jordan. They were engaged in contraband. They owned that which was forbidden them to sell, eat, or even touch. It must have been profitable.

Satan knew all too well the truth Paul expressed in 1 Tim. 6:10: “For the love of money is the root of all evil...” He also knew men would sell anything for money.
