KISS OF BLESSING
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord...” (Psalm 127:3 NKJV)
When Emil von Sauer, one of the most renowned pianists of the day, came to Budapest, he thrilled the Hungarian pianist, Andor Foldes, by asking him to give a recital. Von Sauer was the last surviving pupil of the famed concert pianist and composer, Franz Liszt.
With great enthusiasm, Foldes played some of the most difficult works of Bach, Beethoven, and Schumann. After completing the works, von Sauer quietly walked over and kissed him on the forehead. He said, “My son, when I was your age I became a student of Liszt. He kissed me on the forehead after my first lesson, saying, ‘Take good care of this kiss—it comes from Beethoven, who gave it to me after hearing me play.’ I have waited for years to pass on this sacred heritage, but now I feel you deserve it.”
What an honor to give, and to receive, a kiss of blessing! Children need a kiss of blessing and acceptance from you, just as you needed it from your parents and grandparents—not necessarily a kiss of approval for good performance, but a warm acknowledgement that they are loved and appreciated as individuals. What did the father do first when his prodigal son came home? He ran out to the boy and kissed him! Children learn to love God, themselves, and others, by first experiencing love from God and their parents.
Children are such a blessing and so precious! Have you given your children a kiss of blessing lately?
