LEAVE ME ALONE
“And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw Him, they besought Him that He would depart out of their coasts.” (Matthew 8:34)
How many times have you heard the expression, “Leave me alone!” You were trying to help, trying to encourage some one to return to the Lord. There was a whole town that felt that way. The record is in the above verse in Matthew 8:34.
Have you ever said that by your actions, manners, or indifference? Perhaps you did not have the courage to put it into words, but you did not need too. Your demeanor told the truth of your life.
It was the prophet Hosea that was inspired to write these words, “Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!” (Hosea 9:12). Here is another Biblical picture: the rebellious people, as the prophet reported, “to the seers, See not; and to the prophets deceits: Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us” (Isaiah 30:10, 11). The prophet does not end his discourse there, but continues to remind us of the consequence of this kind of action.
In these passages, God has put your thoughts and actions into words, and, as reported in the past: He takes you at your word. You can see the consequence, but will you be moved if you have that “leave me alone attitude?”
