PRAY FOR DAILY BREAD
“And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.” (John 6:11 NKJV)
The sequence to the third and fourth petitions of the Lord’s Prayer is important. First, you pray for God’s will to be done, and they for daily bread. Only as you permit God’s will to be done will you fully grasp the significance and value of praying for daily bread.
As God’s will is a part of your life, so you will be continually thankful for all you receive through Him. Certainly, that is the most important part of praying for daily bread. For it is not just a matter of receiving, but of receiving in the right spirit. That spirit was revealed by Jesus when He took the loaves and gave thanks. So should you, as you partake of all God’s blessings—yes, even those things as common as home, family, food, clothing, the whole joy of life—give thanks to God. For in such a common way, you are touched by God’s love, a love that multiplies within your heart and sends you forth in service to Him.
Pray that you may always be thankful for all God’s wonderful blessings, not only in word, but also in deed.
“...Striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:27 NKJV).
