PRAY TO BE SPARED EVIL
“But he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.” (Luke 16:31)
The seventh petition of the Lord’s Prayer: “But deliver us from evil.” From it can be noted these thoughts. Evil comes upon mankind as a result of sin. Therefore, you should be eager to be delivered from the sin itself, as well as from the evil which follows.
In this world evil may affect the body, as man suffers from sickness, pain, hunger, poverty. It may affect the soul and bring unbelief, anxiety, care, and the like. You may suffer loss of property or character. Some evils you must endure as long as you live. If you are faithful, God will not only overrule them all for your good, but will finally, at death, deliver you from all evil, forever.
“O for a faith that will not shrink,”
Though passed by many a foe;
That will not tremble on the brink
Of poverty or woe.
“...Striving together for the faith of the gospel” (Philippians 1:27 NKJV).
