REWARD FOR SERVICE RENDERED
“Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou are the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” (Psalm 25:5)
They did not say, “Fired,” but they did say your service here is no longer needed. This has been the experience of so many in these days. There is no need to look for causes—they would be different in nearly every case. The fact is: there is no continuing reward for service no longer needed or desired.
Just what does that have to do with a Christian? When you became a Christian, you accepted responsibilities. Now you are not in danger of losing your job, of being “fired,” but you do need to check on the responsibilities you accepted when you took this step in life.
The apostle put it this way, “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men” (Colossians 3:23); adding, “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
It is not enough to talk about a reward in Heaven, perhaps it can be illustrated from the life of Solomon. His visitor was the queen of Sheba and this is her observation, “Happy are thy men, happy are these thy servants, which stand continually before thee, and that hear thy wisdom” (1 Kings 10:8). If these were happy, how much more should those be who serve in the house of the Lord? Those who like David are by actions saying, “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:5).
In every frame of life, time of adversity, time of trial, time of joy, you are His servant and your condition of service should always be “heartily as to the Lord” (Colossians 3).
