“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
“Trust Him when doubt seems much stronger,
Trust Him when strength may be small,
Trust Him when simply to trust Him
May be hardest of all.”
If we love the Lord, we can keep our focus on trust. “I love the Lord because He heard my voice and my supplication. Because He hath inclined His ear unto me, therefore will I call upon Him as long as I live” (Psalm 116:1, 2).
All who make this commitment to the Lord and obey His commands have a promise of eternal life in Heaven. Who doesn’t want to live eternally in Heaven?
The Bible teaches that physical death is a separation of the Spirit from the body, at which separation the dust shall “return to the earth as it was: and the Spirit to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
The poet Longfellow expressed it this way:
“Life is real, life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returneth,
Was not spoken of the soul.”
Trust and obey the Lord and the soul will find a resting place in Paradise to await the resurrection. Christ said to the thief with Him on the cross, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43). Paradise is the place of rest for the righteous spirits after physical death. There the soul will rest till resurrection. It’s a place of delight.
Trust in the Lord. The following poem, ‘Beyond Life’s Gateway,’ has some beautiful lines:
“There is an open gate
At the end of the road
Through which each must go alone,
And there, in a light we cannot see,
Our Father claims His own.
Beyond the gate your loved one
And there is comfort in the thought
That a loving God knows best.”
