SEEK YE FIRST
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Our society is continually bombarded with the idea that you have to have all the right “stuff” to be successful in this life. And the more we have it seems the more we want. It’s easy to forget that Jesus said, “A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15). I love to go to estate sales, but I always come away a little sad because I know that further on down the road of life the material things I have will go to someone else. That thought should teach us that having things should not be foremost in this life. Some of the people I have loved best in this world lived very simply and had very little. But they found ways to be rich toward the Lord and His church. Jesus goes on to tell the story of a certain rich man who tore down his barns to build bigger ones to hold his gain but that night his soul was required of him (Luke 12:18-20).
But we are promised that if we put God first He will see that we have the other things that we need. From personal experience I know that He can open doors for us that we never dreamed possible. It all depends on whether we have faith to believe He will do what He says He will do.
