TRUTH
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32 NKJV)
The “truth” emphasized by Christians is the Gospel, i.e., the Good News of Christ. Christians believe that spiritual “truth” is revealed to mankind through the Holy Word of God—the Scriptures, the Bible.
On the first day of the week (every Sunday) Christians meet to remember the death of Christ, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, proclaiming the Gospel of Christ and spiritually celebrating the release of man from bondage to sin, through Jesus Christ. The Good News is that mankind can draw near to God, no longer slave to sin...because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in the shedding of His precious blood on Calvary.
Yours is the freedom in Christ enjoyed as you accept His marvelous and are born again.
The word “truth” in John 8:32, refers to Christ’s holy and blessed Gospel. Without knowledge of and faith in the salvation through Christ which is yours, a person is certainly in bondage—a sinner shackled in slavery, a prisoner in the house of depravity, guilt and condemnation. But the ‘truth’ can make you free.
What Christ on Calvary has done for you, for all mankind, releases you from the condemnation of guilt, if you only believe and obey Him. Because guilt and sin are ever associated with fear and dread, and make for anxious cares in life and even the fear of death, you are ever bound as a slave to sin, until allowing the ‘truth’ to deliver you.
But, merely a mental knowledge of the “truth,” without any effect being produced on your heart or life, is useless. Only when you obey and experience the “truth,” trying and testing what is represented in Christ’s Gospel, do you really come to understand and know spiritual freedom. Then you are pointed to Christ’s universal reign. In the freedom of the Gospel you are shown that all things are managed by infinite wisdom and love.
God is Truth. Pray that you will always believe in God’s Truth, no matter how promising falsehood may seem. Pray that you will never shrink from the Light. Ask the Almighty God to forgive your lack of faith.
“…Serving together as God directs” (Philippians 1:27 NKJV).
