VESSELS OF GOLD
“Because the Lord disciplines those He loves and He punishes everyone He accepts as a son.” (Hebrews 12:6)
The further we go into our future, the more events from the past enrich our lives. The store house of memory God gave us is a wonderful reference book we can use as a source of comfort when we recall cherished moments of days gone by. Some so special, we long to hug close to our heart and make time stand still right there. But God has a higher plan for our lives than to live out our days in things that bring pleasure.
Mountain tops and lowest valleys are woven into each tapestry that is an original portrait of our personal lives. In depths of sorrow we cry out to God for help and comfort that He alone gives. Through these periods He is testing our faith; shaping us into ‘purest gold’ set for His Kingdom—forgiving our sins when we ask from a sincere heart. So, to refresh our spirits recall the happy moments, and use the difficult times as a means of growth in faith and total dependence upon God, our Father. Remember, He has a higher purpose for our lives.
2 Timothy 2:20-21 (Living Bible): “In a wealthy home there are dishes made of gold and silver as well as some made from wood and clay. The expensive dishes are used for guests, and the cheap ones are used in the kitchens or to put garbage in. If you stay away from sin you will be like one of these dishes made of purest gold, the very best in the house, so that Christ Himself can use you for His highest purposes. I don’t want to be a garbage can, do you?”
