DRAW NEAR TO GOD—HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO YOU

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double- minded.” (James 4:8 NKJV)

A minister in his lesson spoke of Enoch and how he walked with God and then he was no more because God took him away. He said he did not understand this completely. After service a small boy pulled on his finger and said, “Mister, I understand about Enoch.” The minister said, “Please tell me.” The little boy said, “Enoch loved God and God loved Enoch and they took long walks together. One day they were walking and talking and they came closer to God’s house than Enoch’s, so God said, ‘Enoch, just come on home with me’ and he did.”

God was close to Enoch and He wants to be close to us. We need to draw close to God through our prayer life. Some are hearing impaired and do not understand every word others speak. Not so with God. He hears our every word regardless of time—day or night.

We draw close to God by having Him speak to us. He speaks to us through His Word. Many people in India walk or ride a bicycle for many miles in the hope that their god speak to them. Most of us have God’s Word at our finger tips. All we need to do is take time to hear Him talk through those Holy Words.

We draw near to God when we meditate on Him as our Creator. When we realize all that we have comes from Him. When we realize how much He loves us and wants us to trust and obey Him.

We draw close to God when we serve others. We are God’s vessels. We are to do to others as we would have them do to us. Remember, our Lord said that as we do to the least of His brethren, we do to Him.

Live each day in such a manner that one day God will say, “Come on home with Me.”
